IEP Meeting at School

I find that while all those school people are nice enough, I have yet to find one of them that can make sense of any real world scenario, if they have read about it in the manual. The answers I get are generic, and when I ask a question they haven't heard before, they make it sound like I'm nuts.
Example...If my son has 120 credits entering Senior year and only needs 125 to graduate is it possible for him to graduate after completing English and Gym, and be done mid year.
Them:NO!
Me:Why not?
Them:I'm not sure if it's written anywhere, but we only graduate students in June. There are 3 things to qualify for graduation. 125 credits, a required set of courses, and attendance. Graduating midyear would violate attendance.  I've never been asked about that before. Plus I couldn't guarantee he'd have gym and english in the beginning of the year. It depends on the schedule.
Me: Don't you make the schedule?
Them: I just put it in the computer. The computer makes the schedules. Don't you want your son to take educational electives?

Are you kidding me? He should show up for 6 months to fulfill an attendance requirement? Educational electives? Couldn't he be learning the same stuff in college and getting credit for it. In 9 years of block scheduling no one thought of graduating midyear? And to top it off, the most you can influence a schedule is what you plug into a computer?  This is a ridiculous system.

If we homeschool for the fall and he decides to go back to school I'm sure they'd find a way to get him in English and Gym, in the spring and he'd still graduate with extra credits the following year. He can take a "homechool"  6 mo leave of absence  doing NOTHING at all and I'm the one they think is not seeing the big picture.
