The Why

Do you ever see looks like these in the classroom?

  1. Public School (PS) Does not inspire a love of learning because they make learning dull.
  2. PS teaches to the slowest kids in the class, and the smartest kids in the class are ignored. (CMD was allowed to read under his desk all through elementary school because he was able to do well on tests even without paying attention and it kept him from being disruptive). (anti socialization)
  3. PS teaches smart kids to find the loopholes, to work the system, not to work to their best.
  4. PS spends too much time teaching to the standardized tests and ignores huge chunks of knowledge all together
  5. PS gives way too much homework so that kids have very little time to be kids. (anti socialization)
  6. PS is a waste of time. Literally! There is as much time spent transitioning classes, and general classroom management than on education.
  7. PS systems are corrupt.
  8. PS teachers are often not allowed to think outside the box by the restrictions of curriculum.
  9. PS are in need of dramatic reform which is recognized by many but changes are slow to occur through the bureaucracy.
  10. PS administration is driven by policy and regulations instead of the best interest of the children.
  11. Children are conditioned more than ever to not talk or interact with each other, (antisocialization) but only focus on the work, or sitting quietly waiting for the teacher to start imparting knowledge on the stupid little brains. Where does the appropriate socializations come in? Ahh Recess....
  12. PS is breeding grounds for bullying. As kids of the same age are the thrown onto playgrounds with no guidance or modeling on how to behave. They are wild animals creating the rules of the society they form. (antisocialization) Maybe not recess:-( Hmmm maybe not Recess. Lunch?
  13. In Lunch you are made to sit with your class or homeroom, and they want you to keep the talking to a minimum. (anti socialization)
  14. Once children go to school and they understand that there is one person in the room who knows everything, the teacher’s opinion is often the most meaningful. How many times have I seen kids ignore parents, retorting “Mrs. So and So says.....” They don’t understand Mrs. So and So can be wrong sometimes too.

The difference to me is like these houses.
One has no walls but roof cover is good enough.
The other has a good foundation, roof, decorative bushes, and a path. It’s not perfect but it’s trying.

    1. Homeschool (HS) allows education to be anything you need it to be.
    2. HS can be tailored to individual interests.
    3. HS allows for more family time (socialization).
    4. HS allows children to work at their own pace in each subject.
    5. HS children are socialized through play dates, park dates, field trips, Co-operative learning engagements where adults and older children set an example of decorum (socialization).
    6. HS schedules are flexible allowing for vacations and trips at off peak times to make the most of your experience.
    7. HS inspires learning with creative assignments.
    8. HS allows for free time to explore more interests where they will meet people with similar interests (socialization).
    9. By becoming enthralled with learning, children become better students.
    10. Colleges are excited to accept better students and often offer scholarship packages to them.
    11. HS Students can take courses at the community college and earn dual credit toward high school and college.
